Miss Garden Grove Bio

Crystal Maurer is a 21-year-old senior attending Chapman University, where she is pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree in both Music Education and Vocal Performance.  Crystal’s strong passion for music and the arts is reflected in her performing, classical training, current studies, as well as her future ambitions.  She is determined to become a high school vocal department director in addition to becoming a private vocal instructor.  Eventually, she would like to obtain a doctorate of music degree and teach at the collegiate level.

Crystal believes in getting the most out of life and her college experience is no exception.  She is actively involved within her sorority, Delta Gamma, as the vice president in charge of philanthropy.  Based on her academic achievements, Crystal has been listed on the Provost’s List for multiple semesters and was inducted into the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society where she holds the position of President after serving as the community service coordinator.  During her freshman year at Chapman, Crystal was accepted as a singer in the prestigious Chapman University Choir.  Being part of this ensemble has provided Crystal with amazing opportunities such as traveling to Greece, singing at the Hollywood Bowl and performing in the opera Porgy and Bess at the new Segerstrom Hall in Orange County.

A 2003 graduate of Pacifica High School, she was a singer in the competitive show choir, performed in two school musicals, was a choreographer and President of the Advanced Dance Department, a three-year cheerleader and earned a letter in academics.  Crystal had the honor of being chosen to sing at her graduation ceremony, was voted Prom Princess and has the most supportive friends in the world.

During her year serving her hometown as Miss Garden Grove, Crystal will focus on her platform: Service for Sight.  Her platform was inspired not only by her sorority’s commitment to Service for Sight, but also by her own grandfather’s loss of sight.  She hopes to spread eye care awareness to all ages of the Garden Grove community while offering aid to the blind and dyslexic.
