LAUREN HOWARD
MISS GARDEN GROVE 2006
Lauren Howard is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Performance Theatre at California State University, Fullerton. CSUF’s undergraduate theatre program ranks among the top 15 in the nation. The training she has received has proven rigorous and challenging. Besides classical theatre training, Lauren’s major has given her the opportunity to participate in various other aspects of theatre production, including backstage technical support, costumes and make-up, and set management. In addition, Lauren has auditioned and been accepted as a part-time student at The Groundlings School of Improvisation, where talented comedic actors such as Will Ferrell, Lisa Kudrow, and Phil Hartman began their careers. Lauren’s greatest aspiration is to work in sketch comedy on a satirical show such as NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Born and raised in Garden Grove, Lauren is proud and honored to represent her hometown. She is a graduate of Pacifica High School, where she was an integral part of the school community. Lauren was chosen Captain of the Pacifica Cheer Squad during her junior and senior years. She was involved in the Associated Student Body, which allowed her to participate in student government and perform community service projects. Dance was also an important aspect of Lauren’s high school experience, as she was a four-year dance student and held the position of Dance Club President. During her senior year of high school, Lauren was named “Voice of Pacifica,” where she acted as a liaison between administration and students. She was voted “Most Spirited” by her classmates.
There is a special place in Lauren’s heart for the more mature members of our society. Having had a close elderly family member experience neglect while in a care facility, has contributed to Lauren choosing “Elder Neglect and Abuse” as her platform. During the next year as Miss Garden Grove, she will be promoting awareness and education of this issue by visiting retirement homes, care facilities, and working with a national agency.
